"It all began in the darkness of the void.

We freed ourselves from the hell we had created on Earth, but freedom had a price.

The weak and the poor fell victim to the corporations, who rule the solar system.

Driven by their greed, the corporations laid claim to the tenth planet and woke the sleeping beast, may its name be forever despised.

Thus did the Dark Legion descend on us, howling for our death and destruction.

Now is the time to conquer our fear and stand up against the tidal wave of the Dark Symmetry.

Now is the time for heroes."

Background

There are no longer any nations. They were replaced by four mega-corporations; Bauhaus, Capitol, Imperial, Mishima. At war for power and natural resources they laid waste to Earth, then spread the war to the rest of the solar system.

When war and exploitation reached the tenth planet, an ancient seal was broken and Darkness seeped into our world. The Dark Symmetry infested our technology and made microprocessors dangerously unreliable. After years of chaos we adapted and focused research and developement on mechanical rather than computer technology.

The Dark Apostles, Ilian, Semai, Algeroth, Demnogonis and Muawihje, corrupt our wills, turn us againt one another or into Heretics.

The Brotherhood's zealous persecution of Heretics instills more fear in us than in our enemy, but who else can give us hope?

A new megacorp, Cybertronic, claims to be able to circumvent the techno-curse of the Dark Symmetry. They used to be secretive about it, but their influence grows.

As Cybertronic brings man and machine closer than ever, many remember the chaos. Aren't thinking machines and automated microsystems vessels for the Dark Soul?

Representatives of Capitol, Bauhaus, Imperial and Mishima, the devestators of the corporate wars, now look with suspicion on Cybertronic delegates as they try to set differences aside and unite against the Dark Legion.

They meet in the Cartel Building, Luna City.

That's where you work.

Luna City

All quotes in this section are from Mutant Chronicles, 2nd edition.

"Circling the wasted Earth is the greatest city ever constructed. It spans large parts of the surface of Luna and even burrows deep into the heart of the Moon. Luna, once just a spectral orb in the night sky, has become our new home."

"This is the city of Luna. From the Ancient Quarters in downtown Luna, the human worlds are ruled by the enlightened Brotherhood and by the scheming megacorporations. Outside the Ancient Quarters, in the Perimeters, the city has grown to cover ten times the area of any other city ever known, and it's still spreading like a cancer."

"The architecture of Luna is massive and the buildings are huge behemoths of black stone and steel. Covering the facades are statues and gargoyles and enormous tubes and outlets for the steam used to heat many buildings. The buildings are connected at many levels by stone bridges or rusting iron steps."

"Downtown at night, the streets are shrouded in the cold wet fog that spews from the ventilation systems when the temperature falls. The streets are lit by gaslights, giving the buildings a blue tone and throwing diffused shadows on the walls."

"Right in the center of Luna the Cartel building rises like a gigantic tombstone over the hopes once placed in this organization."

This is where you work. Not as an elite Doomtrooper, but drudging along among the regular troops and security people.

The Dark Legion has one thing going for it; the corporate wars are on a halt now, however uneasy the truce.

We have no choice but to work together, and you want to be part of that, that's why you're here.

You just showed up for work and are still in civilian clothing. You're in the elevator.

The friends who called you naive and idealistic when you joined up will soon be proven right...

Assault on Luna is a single-player deck-building game. Each time you play, you pick a character with a unique deck and choose one of the missions. The character determines your starting abilities and the mission defines how the game is won. While trying to achieve the mission objective you have to explore, searching for shelter, items, civilians to rescue and weapons to fight off the onslaught of the Dark Legion.

While you explore you improve your deck with new equipment and learn new skills, but the enemy advances. Each time you have to reshuffle your deck, Heretics, Dark Legionnaries or worse, are added to it. When these are drawn they have to be dealt with decisively or you'll be wounded. With a wound to the leg you can't run away. With awound to the arm you have to let go of one of your weapons. With a wound to the head you're dead.

A single game of Assault on Luna is over quickly, but you can play it as a campaign of sorts by going through all of the missions in order. To start playing the game, go to the rules section.
